Curriculum

The Wayne State University Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies entry level professional program is a Plan C graduate program and requires the completion of 54 credit hours of course work over two years - six consecutive semesters. To earn the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, each student must successfully complete all course requirements in the proper sequence as listed below:

7000/ 7001 Anatomy for Physician Assistants: Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. A course in human cadaver dissection designed to provide an understanding of the structural and functional anatomy of the human body relevant to the physician assistant. All regions of the body will be studied.

7010 Clinical Medicine I. :Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Major disease entities; emphasis on etiology, manifestations, diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

7020 Clinical Medicine II. Prereq: PAS 7010. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Continuation of PAS 7010.

7030 Clinical Medicine III. Prereq: PAS 7030. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Continuation of PAS 7020.

7040 Patient Evaluation I.  Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes.  The elicitation and proper recording of a complete medical history and physical examination.

7050 Patient Evaluation II.  Prereq: PAS 7040.Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Continuation of PAS 7040.

7060 Patient Evaluation III. Prereq: PAS 7050.Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes Continuation of PAS 7050.

7070 Health Care Issues I.  Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Specialized topics in the care of patients as well as issues concerning the delivery of health care to the public.

7080 Health Care Issues II.  Prereq: PAS 707. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Continuation of PAS 7070.

7090 Health Care Issues II.  Prereq: PAS 7080. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Continuation of PAS 7080.

7100 Pharmacology I: Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Principles of pharmacological action followed by a review of the major therapeutic agents in each clinical area; will provide the student with an understanding of each drug category's mechanism of action, therapeutic uses, major side effects, warning and precautions.

7500 Pathophysiology I Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Dynamics of alterations in function in response to disease

7510 Pathophysiology II Prereq: PAS 7500. Dynamics of alterations in function in response to disease.

7520 Pathophysiology III Prereq: PAS 7510. Dynamics of alterations in function in response to disease.

8000 Internal Medicine Rotation. Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Advanced training in internal medicine with particular emphasis on in- and out-patient primary care.

8010 Obstetrics & Gynecology Rotation. Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Advanced training in the problems associated with gestation, birth and woman's health.

8020 Emergency Medicine Rotation. Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Advanced training in all aspects of the practice of urgent and emergent medicine.

8030 Pediatric Rotation. Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Advanced training in the care of children from birth through adolescence.

8040 Psychiatric Rotation.  Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Participation in the care of patients with psychiatric disorders in an inpatient and outpatient setting.

8050 Surgery Rotation. Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Examination of patients with surgical disorders, participation in selected surgical procedures and recommendations for further evaluation and care.

8060 Family Medicine Rotation.  Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes. Advanced training in outpatient evaluation of pediatric and adult patients with emphasis on family health, lifespan and coordination of the health care team.

8070 Preceptorship. Prereq: admission to professional curriculum. Material fee as indicated in Schedule of Classes, Advanced clinical training in an area of medicine selected by the student.
